Review of The Trouble with Beasts (Howl for the Damned Book One) by D. Fischer

A series for readers who like magic, action, fated mates, witches, shifters, and skinwalkers.

Bitten by secrets. Broken by truths. That’s the trouble with beasts.

Jinx Whitethorn is fine with being alone, thank you very much. All she needs is a bottle of liquor to remind her that, as a witch born without magic, the coven life isn't for her. Until a group of shifters start hunting her. They chase her through the streets, corner her, and then . . . she blacks out. And when she wakes, they're all dead.

She has no idea how she's surviving.

Determined for answers about what she's becoming, Jinx digs through old family secrets. Twisted secrets. Magical secrets. Secrets that make her question everything she knows.

Jacob Trent, the alpha of the local pack, stumbles across Jinx while trying to solve the shifter murders in the town his pack protects. He doesn't trust her and has every intention of discovering the truth she tries so hard to hide.

But what will he do when he finds out that her family's secrets have made her the prey of a hunt she isn’t prepared for?

The Trouble with Beasts in the first book in Howl for the Damned, a series based in the world of D. Fischer’s Divinus Kingdom. Divinus Kingdom is interconnecting novels that branch one series to the next. This series follows the Rise of the Realms series, but can be read on its own.

MY REVIEW

THIS IS THE FIRST BOOK I HAVE READ BY AUTHOR, D. FISCHER AND IT DEFINITELY WON'T BE THE LAST.  THE TROUBLE WITH BEASTS IS ONE OF THE BEST SHIFTER BOOKS I HAVE READ IN A LONG TIME.  THE AUTHOR HAS CONCEIVED THIS MAGICAL WORLD WITH WITCHES, WOLF SHIFTERS AND SKIN WALKERS. THE PLOT AND STORY LINE IS UNIQUE AND THE CHARACTERS ARE VERY WELL DEVELOPED AND WRITTEN  JINX IS A BAD ASS WITCH WITH NO POWERS AND JACOB IS THE ALPHA OF A LOCAL WOLF PACK WHO IS INVESTIGATING THE DEATH OF SHIFTERS.  JINX IS BEING HUNTED FOR UNKNOWN REASONS AND BLACKS OUT DURING THE ATTACKS.  SHE HAS NO IDEA WHAT IS HAPPENING TO HER.  WHEN JINX AND JACOB MEET FOR THE FIRST TIME, THE SPARKS FLY BETWEEN THEM.  JINX AND JACOB DON'T TRUST ONE ANOTHER BUT WHEN JINX'S S FAMILY SECRETS COME OUT, HE WILL DO EVERYTHING IS HIS POWER TO PROTECT HER.  WILL JACOB AND HIS PACK SUCCEED?

THE TROUBLE WITH BEAST IS AN ACTION PACT FAST PACE READ THAT WILL LEAVE YOU WANTING MORE.  I WAS IMMEDIATELY DRAWN IN THE STORY AND INTO THE LIVES OF JINX AND JACOB.  I LOVED HOW THE PACK ACCEPTED JINX AS SHE WAS.  JINX IS DEFINITELY A BAD ASS HEROINE WHO CAN TAKE CARE OF HERSELF.  THE ATTRACTION BETWEEN HER AND JACOB IS VERY BELIEVABLE AND REAL.  I LOVED HOW THE AUTHOR ALLOWED IT TO DEVELOP SLOWLY.  IT MADE THEIR RELATIONSHIP MORE REALISTIC AND BELIEVABLE.  I REALLY LOVED ALL THE CHARACTERS ESPECIALLY THE PACK.  THE TROUBLE WITH BEAST IS A GREAT START TO THE HOWL FOR THE DAMNED SERIES. I REALLY LOVE D. FISCHER'S WRITING AND I CAN'T WAIT TO READ THE NEXT BOOK IN HER SERIES.  MUST READ FOR PARANORMAL FANS.  5 STARS
