When an unexpected meeting brings these two together, tough exteriors crack and sparks fly. But danger is never far from probation officers nor billionaires. After a bad business deal brings the Russian mob to the door, they have to fight to save their heads…or lose their hearts.

Reneé Nicole grew up just north of Raleigh, North Carolina, in the very small town of Franklinton. Nicole, as her family and friends call her, is a middle child and the best aunt ever (there’s even a mug that says so). She has lived in a few different cities throughout the United States, but for now calls Richmond, Virginia her home. Nicole graduated from college with a degree in Criminal Justice, and received her master’s degree in Justice Studies. Since then, she has worked for over a decade in the criminal justice field. Specifically, community corrections: first as a state probation and parole officer, and now as a federal probation officer. Since no one calls her mom or wife, she holds her ‘auntie’ title with pride. Nicole spends her nights in front of a computer screen writing about fictional men who do naughty things that would make anyone blush, and badass women who both want it and love it.

Nicole’s love of books developed later in life, after she was dragged into reading one of the best trilogies of all time. This led her to fall in love with writing. In particular, the process of using the power of words and imagination to entertain. She decided to write what she knows – but with lots and lots of steam. Nicole is excited to change her career path and provide entertainment to every person who picks up her book. Criminal Justice degree and author: sounds about right.

These days you can find Nicole working as a federal probation officer. A day job, as some may call it. But it’s not her only day job: she’s also a certified florist and small business owner of a flower shop, Petals of Color, with her sister and business partner. Nicole loves traveling, good rum, good wine, and spending time with her parents, siblings, and family.

Check out Nicole’s author pages on Instagram and Facebook, where you can like and follow to receive updates about her upcoming writing projects.

Cody Ryan’s father never missed fishing the annual Loon Lake tournament until his unexpected passing. So this year, Cody packs up her how-to fishing videos and her dad’s old johnboat and gives him one final entry.

Gage Connor needs some R&R away from his coast guard deployment catching drug smugglers along the Louisiana coast, so he borrows a bass boat from his buddy and heads to Loon, Alabama to do some fishing.

When Gage and Cody meet at Loon Lake, their attraction is immediate and intense—until the two discover there is only one boat slip left on the lake and they both need it, and there’s only one vacant hotel room left in Loon and they both want it. Thus, their competition begins. Both vow to keep their distance from the other to fight the temptation, but fate has other plans. The tournament pairing party picks the two-man teams and chooses Gage as Cody’s partner.

For two days.
Alone on a boat.
Working as a team.

Good things come to those who bait . . .

Read an Excerpt

Feeling the hotel room being yanked out from underneath her, Cody lost her grip on her temper. “I don’t care. I arrived here first.” She wheeled on Velma. “Tell him.”

Velma had a hard time meeting the man’s glittering green eyes, and Cody feared the worst. “Velma, you have to go with the first person who arrived here, and that was me.”

Velma visibly wavered, and her gaze bounced between Cody, Mr. Never-Had-Any-Patience, and her twin, who looked ready to burst into tears.

“It’s not your fault, Sister.” She patted Delma’s hand. “You didn’t know we were upstairs. I’ll handle this.”

Velma faced her two potential guests and announced, “We’ll flip for it.”

Delma immediately beamed.

“What?” Cody cried.

“Fine by me,” the stranger snapped and crossed his arms on his oversized and quite muscular pecs. Not that Cody was staring.

Velma reached into her apron pocket and drew out a silver dollar. She smiled at Cody. “Since you were here first, you can call it, and you can have heads if you want. I always liked heads in a coin toss, and I always got lucky calling heads.” Her eyes twinkled at Cody.

“Fine. Heads it is,” Cody said.

The coin flipped high in the air. Velma deftly caught it with her right hand and smacked the coin on top of her left. “Heads it is,” she proclaimed.

Cody blew out a sigh of relief.

“Hey, wait a minute,” the stranger complained.

“See for yourself.” Velma angled her hand for him to snatch a glimpse and then chucked the coin back into her pocket.

Cody stared him right in the eye. “I win.”

He eased closer—almost nose to nose—and she reconsidered her idea to gloat. His emerald eyes darkened, turned almost black, and locked onto hers. She could hear and feel each breath he took, because she held hers. Waiting.

“Share it with me.”

His gaze never wavered. She could feel it, almost like a caress.

“I promise I won’t touch you . . . if you don’t want me to.” The latter implied he wanted exactly the opposite.

She is venom.

Blame her poor choices, not me.

Life in Stonewall isn't the same for everyone.
You'd think after the world ended, and we--the lucky ones--were saved by a dome that protects us from the toxic air, that maybe we would have learned... something,
anything.
Of course not.
We live in three factions, ruled over by the Elites.
I'm not one of them. But I'm infiltrating. I'm in their midst...
And I'm going to bring them down, even if it means tearing down this entire dome with them.

Guardian's Return

The Last Princess of Latara Book 2

A month has passed since she tricked Theodora back across the dimensional gateway that brought Theodora to Earth. Since then, Charlee—now fully aware that she is part of a noble bloodline from another world…another dimension…has grown stronger in her magic, aided by her protector, a shapeshifter sent to Earth to protect her.

But the terrible dreams won’t stop.

Theodora lives, and if Charlee’s dreams of death and fields of spilled blood are true, her great aunt has avenged herself on that world across the dimensional divide.

Charlee knows what she must do. The fight is not over. She must travel across the gateway to the home of her ancestors and face Theodora one more time. But doing so may cost Charlee more than her life. The same medallion her great aunt desires so much—a medallion Charlee possesses—could make her just as evil as her great aunt.

Can Charlee stave off the twisted tendrils of the medallion long enough to defeat Theodora—for good—or will evil consume her? Can she even survive so far from home? Her only hope may rest in the Lord of the Dragons, but that beast turned his back on her grandfather long ago…

First, she receives a gift of the ugliest, most old fashioned bike she has ever seen. Try as she might to ditch it in the city, she just can’t seem to escape that very mysterious two-wheeler. Then come the visions of a world across a dimensional divide, a princess in fear for her life and a dark knight pursuing her. Are they just dreams or something more?

For Charlee, everything she ever thought she knew about herself soon crumbles as she starts down a path to discover her true self, and she will need that hunk-of-junk bike more than she could ever imagine. Without it, she might not be able to find the hero in herself—the hero she must become to save her friends, family, her city—the world—from an evil only she can defeat. Like many writers, my journey to become an author began with a love of reading, and I have my grandmother to thank for that. When I was eight or nine, she gave me a paper bag filled with comic books from the 1960s and '70s. Comics became a big part of my life. I would save my weekly allowance to buy the most recent editions of Batman and Superman. Then, growing up in the '80s, I began to read Choose Your Own Adventure books from the world of Dungeons & Dragons. And that led me to the works of J.R.R. Tolkien. But my path to become a writer was firmly set after I saw the movie Ghostbusters in 1984, just prior to my freshman year of high school. I was in awe the way the writers came up with words that made people laugh so hard, and I knew right then I wanted to write. I immediately went home and wrote my version of Ghostbusters II. More importantly, I took journalism in high school, and continued to study journalism in college. After a wonderful career as a newspaper journalist, and a secondary career as a college English professor, it was time to rekindle my love for fiction. I knew I wanted to write fantasy, like Tolkien, and I wanted to write for middle grade and young adult readers to inspire them the way I was inspired by the books I read. I hope young readers--and even older ones--enjoy my work. Thank you for checking out my author page, and keep reading, no matter what you love to read. Emma Book Tour and Giveaway

Emma

Heritage Series Volume 1

by Susan Diane Black Blackmon

Genre: Historical Fiction

Emma lay very still, her eyes tightly closed. Sometimes - if she concentrated - she could make out her Momma’s face.
She was the youngest child of eighteen. She had barely been two when her beloved Momma died. Papa had managed to keep body and soul together for a little more than a year, not an easy task with four little ones underfoot. The older children had been a help to him, especially Betsy and Maggie. The bigger boys had helped with the farm’s never-ending chores, but it was never enough.
Papa was different. Losing Momma had hurt him deeply. His gentle eyes were sad. Even when he had given her horsey rides, his smile had never quite reached his eyes.
Emma supposed they shouldn’t have been surprised when Papa had come home one day and brought them a new ‘mother.’ Honestly, her memories of that day were fuzzy. She knew much of what she recalled was from what the older children had said in hushed voices behind ‘Mother’s’ back.
No one had wanted Papa to be sad, but why did
she have to be their new mother?

Based on her maternal great-grandmother and some of the events in her life, much of the story is fiction. However, there are threads of reality woven throughout Emma’s story.
The real-life Emma was, in fact, the youngest in a family of eighteen children, which included three sets of twins and a set of quadruplets. Yes, the article in The Austin Weekly Statesman suggested the fair association should invite the family to attend as “honored guests” when the quadruplet girls were born.

As to the rest, it is up to the reader to decide, fact or fiction.

Daniel Brown Boultinghouse & Mary Jane Russell:

A Collection of Civil War Letters and Family Documents with Genealogical & Historical Commentary

Compiled by Susan Diane Black Blackmon

Genre: Historical Non-Fiction

Daniel Brown “D. B.” Boultinghouse and Mary Jane (Russell), his wife, migrated from Scott County, Arkansas to Texas sometime between March 1849 and June 1850. We know that in 1850, their neighbors in Lampasas County, Texas were Mary Jane’s older brother, D. W. Russell and her father, John.
For thirteen years, the only remarkable events that were documented in their lives are the births and deaths of six small children. As if that were not enough to crush the souls of this young couple, in 1861 their lives were changed forever by the American Civil War.
Hidden away for 158 years, the letters that chronicled their daily lives quietly passed from generation to generation, until finally making their way into the hands of the author. The unrealized dream of D. B. and Mary Jane’s great-grandson, Joe Lee Mankins, was to share these family treasures with his family and the world.
Blended with family documents and stories as well as historical commentary, the reader will be caught up in the story and transported to a simpler yet more difficult era. Ninety-one pages of letters, many with images of the originals, are transcribed for ease of reading.

Who knew that a Junior High School History assignment would turn into a passion for genealogy which has become a love of historical fiction stories?

In 1976, the assignment was to write an autobiography and fill out a Pedigree Chart - thus began “The Tale of the Beautiful Princess or Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Me, But Were Afraid to Ask,” and 45-plus years of researching my family.

Countless hours of my ‘MamMaw’ and Great-aunt Ruth sharing the stories of my ancestors have resulted in the publication of two sets of genealogy books on my Boultinghouse and Driver lines. A third set on the John Gray Parks family is in the works.

In 2022, I was privileged to bring to life the dream of my late cousin, Joe Lee Mankins. The Daniel Brown Boultinghouse & Mary Jane Russell Civil War Letters book is a story of love and heartbreak in the written words of the main characters. The book contains images of many original letters, some more than 171 years old. Not to worry, each page has a transcript for easier reading.

After so many years of research, I have many stories and anecdotes in my mind. With a ‘nudge’ from my older sister, some of those stories wandered onto the page and became Emma.

Based on my maternal great-grandmother and some of the events in her life, much of the story is fiction.
