He came to stand behind her and cleared his throat. “I ha’ been meaning ta thank ye for what ye did for me that first night, and fer sharing th’ blood ye collect. Ye’re verra kind.”

“It was nothing. You would have done the same.” He was too close.

“Ye dinnae know that.” He shifted awkwardly. His eyes were light in the darkness of the tower room. Did he feel his mistake in standing too close? Would he move away?

“Yes I do.” Her body was reacting as if it had been struck by the lightning that illuminated the loch. The thunder was rolling farther away now. Or maybe that was just the thumping of her heart in her chest. Her thighs were slick. She had been running from the feelings he raised in her ever since he got here. But in truth, she wanted very much to know what it would be like to make love to Callan Kilkenny.

“Ye must ha’ thought me churlish no’ ta thank ye and yer father.” He, too, looked out over the loch so he wouldn’t have to look at her.

“No. I didn’t think you churlish...” She took a step toward him in the darkness. She could feel his ragged breathing. And what of her own? She took a breath. It is an experiment. Jimmy took one look at Holly’s face and ushered her in grimly. “They decided to support Navarro, didn’t they?” he demanded tersely.
“I tried to get them to change their minds,” she said quietly. “I’m sorry.”
“You’re sorry?” he demanded incredulously. “You and your buddies are going to embarrass the hell out of my campaign and you’re sorry? May I be so bold as to ask what made them throw their support to Navarro?”
“Jimmy, get real,” she shot back. “You have platitudes. He has a plan.”
He flinched. “So they realize the position I’m in with your mother and her buddies?”
“That’s part of the problem,” she admitted. “They feel like you won’t have the freedom to represent their best interests and Navarro will.”
“Why didn’t you fight them?” he asked. “Why are you just going along with what they’re doing to me?”
Holly was silent for a moment. “Because if I weren’t involved with you, I would be doing exactly what they are. And as much as I hate to admit it, I think Alex Navarro would be light years better for me and my soldiers than you would.”
“Oh, really? Then your buddies can take a hike and you can go with them,” he said angrily.
It was Holly’s turn to flinch. “If that’s how you feel I will most certainly be taking that hike. But first I’m going to tell you to your face that you are a hypocrite of the highest order. Yes, you are,” she said when he started to object. “You expect me to separate my feelings for you from my work with the soldiers. You expect them to understand when you would rather brown-nose my mother and her supporters for their money than support them. And then you act like a spoiled brat when my soldiers throw their support to the candidate who might actually do something for them. That, my friend, is hypocritical.”
She jerked open the front door and turned back around. “You know, Jimmy, an election isn’t just about money,” she said softly, “it’s about votes. And if you run off all your votes chasing the money, you’re going to lose the election, no matter how much money mom’s cronies put into your coffers.”

MY REVIEW:

DAUGHTER OF VALOR IS AN EMOTIONAL READ THAT SHOWS THE OBSTACLES A WOUNDED VETERAN GOES THROUGH WHEN THEY RETURN FROM WAR. THE AUTHOR DID A WONDERFUL JOB IN PORTRAYING THE WOUNDED VETERANS AND THE EMOTIONS AND OBSTACLES THEY FACE WHEN THEY RETURN FROM WAR.  EMILY MIMS IS A NEW AUTHOR FOR ME AND I AM GLAD I GOT A CHANCE TO READ ONE OF HER BOOKS BECAUSE I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED ONE BIT.

BOTH HOLLY AND JIMMY ARE WOUNDED VETERANS AND ARE VERY STRONG.  BOTH HAVE SUFFERED SERIOUS INJURIES INCLUDING EMOTIONAL AND PHYSICAL SCARS.  DESPITE ALL THAT, HOLLY HAS A SUPPORT GROUP THAT SHE RUNS TO HELP THE VETERANS OUT.  SHE GOES OUT OF HER WAY TO BE THERE FOR THEM.  WHEN HOLLY MEETS JIMMY AND FINDS OUT HE IS RUNNING FOR CONGRESS AND IS A WOUNDED VETERAN, SHE FEELS HE COULD DO ALOT TO HELP OUT THE VETERANS IF HE WINS THE ELECTION.

JIMMY FEELS HE CAN DO A LOT OF GOOD IF HE IS ELECTED INTO CONGRESS BUT IN ORDER TO RUN, HE NEEDS A LOT OF MONEY AND BACKING.  IN ORDER TO GET HIS MONEY AND BACKING, HE HAS TO GIVE UP HIS PLANS FOR CONGRESS AND GO ALONG WITH WHATEVER THEY SAY.  JIMMY SACRIFICES HIS TRUE SELF AND MORALS BY DOING THAT.

HOLLY AND JIMMY ARE CONSTANTLY BICKERING BACK AND FOURTH REGARDING THE ELECTION AND VETERANS.  THERE IS SO MUCH CHEMISTRY AND PASSION BETWEEN THEM.  THEY ARE BOTH SO VERY STUBBORN AND WILL NOT GIVE IN.

WHEN THE VETERANS CLOSE TO HOLLY START BEING ATTACKED, INJURED, KILLED OR HURT IN SOME WAY, IT BRINGS HOLLY AND JIMMY CLOSER AND THEY FINALLY GIVE IN TO THEIR PASSION FOR ONE ANOTHER.  JIMMY AND HOLLY ARE APPARENTLY THE TRUE TARGET OF THE KILLER AND HE OR SHE IS OUT TO HURT BOTH IN ANYWAY THE KILLER CAN.  WILL THE KILLER SUCCEED IN HIS PLANS?

DAUGHTER OF VALOR WAS FAST READ FOR ME THAT LEFT ME VERY EMOTIONAL AND SAD AT TIMES.  THE STORY WAS TRULY TOUCHING AND SHOWED JUST HOW OUR VETERANS ARE TRULY TREATED.  THEY SACRIFICE THEIR LIVES FOR US EVERY DAY AND WHEN THEY COME HOME INJURED NO ONE IS THERE IS TO HELP THEM THROUGH IT.  IT MADE ME TRULY SAD THAT IS HOW OUR GOVERNMENT TREATS THEM.  I LOVED ALL THE CHARACTERS AND EMILY MIMS DID A WONDERFUL JOB WITH THE STORYLINE AND CHARACTERS.   SHE KEPT YOU GUESSING UNTIL THE VERY END WHO THE KILLER WAS.  YOU DIDN'T KNOW WHAT HE WOULD DO OR WHAT WOULD HAPPEN NEXT.  

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU READ THIS BOOK.  IT WILL TOUCH YOU IN SO MANY WAYS AND YOU WILL ENJOY THE CHARACTERS AND STORYLINE.  THE STORY WILL KEEP YOU ON THE EDGE OF YOUR SEAT AND YOU WILL DEFINITELY BE GUESSING UNTIL THE VERY END.   I LOVE EMILY'S WRITING AND I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO READING MORE BOOKS BY HER.  I HAVE FOUND ANOTHER FAVORITE AUTHOR.  5 STARS

FIONA LEFT SUNSET BEACH RIGHT AFTER HIGH SCHOOL AND NEVER LOOKED BACK.  SHE IS NOW A FASHION DESIGNER IN LOS ANGELES CALIFORNIA.  SHE IS NOT HAPPY WITH HER LIFE AND IS LOOKING FOR MORE.   SO WHEN SHE RECEIVES THE INVITATION TO HER CLASS REUNION, SHE JUMPS AT THE CHANCE TO RETURN TO SUNSET BEACH TO SEE ALL HER FRIENDS AGAIN.  SHE MEETS TRIP WHO IS A BEEKEEPER AND THEY JUST CLICK.  THE CHEMISTRY IS PRETTY STRONG BETWEEN FIONA AND TRIP.  THEY ARE PRETTY HOT IN BED TOGETHER.  IS IT MORE THAN CHEMISTRY OR IS IT LOVE?

SUNSET NIGHTS IS A MUST READ FOR EVERYONE.  IF YOU LOVE SMALL TOWN SETTINGS AND ROMANCES, THIS IS THE BOOK AND SERIES FOR YOU.  YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED AND WILL FALL IN LOVE WITH THE CHARACTERS AND THE AUTHORS.  SHARON IS ANOTHER ONE OF MY FAVORITE AUTHORS AND I HAVE FALLEN IN LOVE WITH HER STORIES AND WRITING.  YOU MUST READ ALL HER BOOKS.  YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED IN HER WRITING.  SHE DRAWS YOU INTO THE STORY AND HOLDS YOUR ATTENTION UNTIL THE VERY END.  SHARON'S STORIES LEAVE YOU WANTING MORE AND ARE SO BELIEVABLE AND VERY REAL.  5 STARS

Sharon Kleve was born and raised in Washington and currently lives on the Olympic Peninsula with her husband.

SUNSET KISSES IS BOOK 1 IN THE SUNSET BEACH ROMANCE SERIES. ANOTHER WONDERFUL READ BY ANGELA FORD WHO NEVER DISAPPOINTS ME WITH HER WONDERFUL WRITING AND CHARACTERS. I LOVE THE SMALL TOWN SETTINGS.  I THINK THE PEOPLE ARE SO MUCH CLOSER AND CARE MORE ABOUT ONE ANOTHER.

ALIVIA HAS LONGED FOR SUCCESS AND WHEN SHE GET A FULL SCHOLARSHIP TO COLUMBIA, SHE TAKES IT.  SHE LEAVES HER CHILDHOOD SWEETHEART, JACOB AND THE SMALL TOWN BEHIND.  ON HER CLIMB TO SUCCESS ON WALL STREET, SHE REALIZES SUCCESS ISN'T WHAT IT IS CUT OUT TO BE.  WHEN SHE RECEIVES AN INVITATION TO HER REUNION, SHE QUITS HER JOB AND DUMPS HER CONTROLLING BOYFRIEND.  SHE MEETS HER FRIENDS IN SUNSET BEACH FOR THEIR REUNION.  WHEN ALIVIA SEES JACOB AGAIN, SHE REALIZES EVERYTHING SHE HAS EVER WANTED HAS BEEN HERE ALL ALONG.  WILL JACOB FORGIVE HER FOR LEAVING AND DOES HE STILL LOVE HER?

SUNSET KISSES WAS SUCH A ROMANTIC LOVE STORY FOR ME.  I LOVE THE CLOSENESS AND FRIENDSHIP ALIVIA AND JACOB SHARED TOGETHER.  THEIR RELATIONSHIP WAS TRULY SPECIAL.  YOU COULD FEEL HOW DEEPLY THEY CARED ABOUT ONE ANOTHER.  ALIVIA LEAVING WAS SO HARD FOR BOTH OF THEM ESPECIALLY JACOB.  JACOB REALIZED HE HAD TO LET HER GO IF HE TRULY LOVED HER AND IF SHE WAS HIS SHE WOULD RETURN.

I LOVE ANGELA'S WRITING AND I AM NEVER DISAPPOINTED WITH ANY OF HER BOOKS. SHE IS TRULY A ROMANTIC AT HEART AND WRITES WITH SUCH PASSION AND LOVE.  HER CHARACTERS ARE SO VERY REAL LIKE AND SO IS THE STORY LINE.  HER WRITING IS SO BELIEVABLE AND YOU CAN FEEL EVERY CHARACTER'S EMOTION.  YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED IN SUNSET KISSES OR ANY OF ANGELA'S BOOKS.  I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU READ SUNSET KISSES AND THE REST OF THE SERIES.  ALSO, ALL OF HER BOOKS ARE REALLY GREAT READS.  YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.    SHE IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE WRITERS AND I AM SO LOOKING FORWARD TO THE NEXT BOOK SHE WRITES.  5 STARS
