Bill McCormick The Brittle Riders Book Tour and Giveaway

After humans circumvented anti-AI laws and made new species to fulfill roles of menial laborers, sex slaves, and shock troops those creations eventually rose up and killed every man, woman, and child on the planet. This is the world if Frankenstein's monsters ruled the Earth.

The Brittle Riders

Book One

by Bill McCormick

Genre: Science Fiction Fantasy

In a far future, Earth had already been visited by an alien race called the Sominids, who came here for the express purpose of drinking and having sex with everyone they could. When one of their infamous parties resulted in the moon being cut in half and killing everyone who happened to live there, they quietly left. Their encounter with the Sominids had taught the human race many things, primarily that faster-than-light travel did not exist. Denied the stars, the human race began to dwindle in numbers and terminate all of their space programs.

A thousand years later, a scientist named Edward Q. Rohta circumvented anti-AI laws, laws which had been on the books for millennia, by creating organic creatures to provide manual labor. Instead of dying after ten years, as promised in the company brochure, they would develop flu-like symptoms and go into hiding. Eventually, fed up with the mistreatment they suffered at the hands of humans, they rose up and killed every man, woman, and child on the planet. This is the story of what happens next. The Brittle Riders; Apocalypses are funny that way.

A very unique tone and world, reminiscent of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY meets a MAGNIFICENT SEVEN/DIRTY DOZEN - type setup, but with a look, flavor, and lexicon all its own. In a world where studios and streamers are looking for IP that's expansive, both narratively and in terms of ancillary possibilities (prequels, offshoots, video games, etc.), (The Brittle Riders) certainly seems to offer up a number of possibilities. - Garrick Dion – Producer

Blurb Blitz A Travel Memoir Yeats

This post is part of a virtual book tour of the LESSER KNOWN TRAVEL TRIPS series, How to React When Woken at 3am by Drunk Argentinian Backpackers While Staying in a Youth Hostel and Other Lesser Known Travel Tips by Simon Yeats. The author will be awarding a $25 Amazon/BN gift card to a randomly drawn winner. Click on the tour banner to see the other stops on the tour.

Book 4 of an original and hilarious book series of travel misadventures and dubious personal introspection by Australian author Simon Yeats, who from an early age learned that the best way to approach the misfortunes of this world is to laugh about them. Simon shares his comedic insights into the unusual and uproarious elements of living life as an Aussie ex-pat and having a sense of Wanderlust as pervasive as COVID hysteria in the early part of this decade. From how to negotiate traffic in Los Angeles when your car can only drive at 5 miles/hr, to what to do when locked out of your hotel room in your underwear, to the emotions of attempting the world’s second highest bungee when you have a pathological fear of heights, to how to deal with the trials and tribulations of staying in a youth hostel with travelers who have no respect for the other guests. Simon Yeats has gone into the world and experienced all the out of the ordinary moments for you to sit back and enjoy the experience without the need to empty your bank account, get squeezed sitting in a middle airline seat, or deal with border security at the Ukraine/Russia boundary.

Big Wednesday was my first day at work as a liftie on the Burgess Creek lift at the Steamboat ski resort as a wide-eyed 20-year-old. I do not remember the exact date, but I am absolutely certain it was a Wednesday because everyone who was present at the resort that day referred to it as ‘big Wednesday.’

Overnight, between ‘ordinary Tuesday’ and ‘big Wednesday,’ the town and resort received a mammoth amount of snowfall. It absolutely dumped. A biblical amount of snow. Even though I do not recall snow being mentioned once in either the old testament or the new testament. But I could have missed the reference.

And Moses went up the mountain at God’s direction and there was fresh dump of powder snow, and he cried out, “ye verily, gonna cut me some wicked turns.”

To get to work on my first day, I take the shortcut straight down the hill to the main road and bus stop. I am decked out in my official Steamboat resort onesie ski suit. The snow level is over my belly button. It is like wading through waist high surf for a half mile.

I scramble onto the bus, and I am on my knees huffing and puffing while dripping with sweat.

An inauspicious start to the day.

About the Author:

Simon Yeats has lived nine lives, and by all estimations, is fast running out of the number he has left. His life of globetrotting the globe was not the one he expected to lead. He grew up a quiet, shy boy teased by other kids on the playgrounds for his red hair. But he developed a keen wit and sense of humor to always see the funnier side of life.

With an overwhelming love of travel, a propensity to find trouble where there was none, and being a passionate advocate of mental health, Simon’s stories will leave a reader either rolling on the floor in tears of laughter, or breathing deeply that the adventures he has led were survived.

No author has laughed longer or cried with less restraint at the travails of life.

A USA Today Bestselling, award-winning author, Michele taught herself to read at 3 years old because she wanted to write stories so badly. It took some time (and some detours) but now she does spend much of her time writing stories. Mystery stories, to be exact. They're clean and twisty, and range from psychological thrillers to cozies, with a dash of romance and supernatural thrown into the mix. If that wasn't enough, she posts lots of fun things on her blog, including short stories, puzzles, recipes and more, at MPWNovels.com.

Michele grew up in Wisconsin, (hence why all her books take place there), and still visits regularly, but she herself escaped the cold and now lives in the mountains of Prescott, Arizona with her husband and southern squirrel hunter Cassie.

When she's not writing, she's usually reading, hanging out with her dog, or watching the Food Network and imagining she's an awesome cook. (Spoiler alert, she's not. Luckily for the whole family, Mr. PW is in charge of the cooking.)

Julia Marie Davis Catbird Book Tour and Giveaway

Inspired by true events, is a poignant fable about a woman, her husband and a Catbird, set against the backdrop of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Reflecting on global conflicts and human resilience, the book offers a universal message of hope and solidarity in tumultuous times worldwide.

Catbird

By Julia Marie Davis

Genre: Women’s Fiction, Current Affairs

With the immediacy of an op-ed and the narrative feel of a memoir, Catbird embodies the visceral response—angst and exasperating sense of helplessness inflamed by the distance between the will of the people and our national policy, and the bewilderment we feel—to the barbaric violence and violations of human rights happening in Ukraine. Set against the background of seasonal drama in the bird world, it has the sense of a fable, while still holding all the anxiety of the contemporary events we are living through, witnessing, mourning, and opposing.

Told in a series of micro-episodes, Davis channels the fears and fragility of the world order, mirroring the anxiety caused by a continual barrage of  contemporary conflicts we are living through: witnessing, mourning, opposing. A simple and straightforward story on the surface, Catbird expresses untold angst and an exasperating sense of helplessness. This feeling is inflamed by the distance between the will of the people, evolving national policies, and the bewilderment we feel—to the barbaric violence and the violations of human rights unfolding not just in Ukraine but elsewhere around the world.

“Julia Davis’s Catbird is a lyric meditation on a wounded world, one where some of us are safe while horror and war ravage innocent women and children in a distant land. But are we safe? The narrator knows too keenly, and feels too sharply, to believe that we are. Davis writes viscerally and from the heart.”

—Dinty W. Moore, author of The Mindful Writer

“Julia Davis’s Catbird is an urgent, meaningful meditation on war, power, and fragility of the world. It’s 2022 and the invasion of Ukraine has begun. From her place of relative safety, Eve reads of the bombings, the fleeing families and abandoned crops as she ponders the corrupt desire for absolute power and fears she is witnessing the beginnings of World War III. Woven throughout this witnessing are images of the birds she watches in the trees around her house, making tangible the fragility we share in this time when the possibility of invasion threatens us all.”

—Karen Osborn, author of Centerville, Patchwork (a New York Times Notable Book of the Year), Between Earth and Sky, and The River Road

“As a woman of color cheering for those who wish to survive any and all wars against us I hope you read this book with the fear yet compassion it shares."

—nikki giovanni, New York Times best selling and Emmy-award nominated author of Bicycles: Love Poems (2009), The Nikki Giovanni Poetry Collection (2004), and Make Me Rain: Poems & Prose (2020)

Review of Arresting Alan by Amber Daulton

A hacker, a federal agent, and a crime boss. The time has come to fight. Computer technician Alan Harding is no saint, but his squeaky-clean image is unshakable in the eyes of his family and especially his young son. After he agrees to assist a drug lord-turned-snitch and hack into a criminal database, he’s faced with an impossible challenge—keeping his hands and heart away from his sexy as sin bodyguard, DEA Special Agent Hannah Adler. Hannah would rather go hand-to-hand with an assailant than go undercover as Alan’s girlfriend, but she’s determined to keep him safe and his illegal activities on the down-low. The handsome man and his adorable child, however, are more than she bargained for. Once their enemies learn the truth and retaliate by kidnapping Alan’s son, they’ll have to race against the clock to save the boy and bring a dangerous empire to its knees. – Book 4 in the sexy romantic suspense series, Arresting Onyx. –All the books can be read as a standalone, but are part of an interconnected series. The series-wide arc comes to its conclusion in this book, so reading from the beginning may allow for better enjoyment. –Scenes of organized crime, drug use (discussed), abortion (discussed), kidnapping, and endangerment of a child may be uncomfortable for some readers. –No cheating and HEA guaranteed!

Arresting Mason (book 1: Mason and Mia)
Arresting Jeremiah (book 2: Jim and Calista)
Ryan’s Temptation (book 2.5: Ryan and Chanel)

MY REVIEW:

ARRESTING ALAN IS BOOK 4 IN THE ARRESTING ONYX SERIES. ALAN IS A HACKER WHO WAS BLACKMAILED BY A CRIME BOSS TO SAVE HIS BROTHER, MASON. NOW HE HAS A CHANCE TO GET OUT BY HELPING THE FEDS. DEA SPECIAL AGENT, HANNAH ADLER IS ASSIGNED TO PROTECT ALAN AND HIS SON. SHE PRETENDS TO BE HIS GIRLFRIEND SO SHE CAN REMAIN CLOSE TO BOTH OF THEM. THE SEXUAL CHEMISTRY BETWEEN THEM IS OFF THE CHART AND IT IS A CONSTANT STRUGGLE FOR HANNAH TO REMAIN NEUTRAL. THE MORE TIME HANNAH SPENDS WITH ALAN AND HIS SONH, THE MORE SHE FINDS HERSELF FALLING DEEPLY IN LOVE WITH BOTH OF THEM. WHEN ALAN'S SON IS KIDNAPPED, WILL HANNAH AND ALAN BE ABLE TO SAVE HIM IN TIME.

ARRESTING ALAN IS THE FINAL BOOK IN THE ARRESTING ONYX SERIES. I WAS HOOKED FROM THE VERY PAGE UNTIL THE END. THE CHEMISTRY BETWEEN ALAN AND HANNAH WAS HOT AND STEAMED UP THE PAGES.  I ENJOYED WATCHING HANNAH FALL FOR ALAN. IT FELT SO COMPLETELY NATURAL THE LOVE BETWEEN THEM AND THE FACT THAT SHE ADORED HIS SON AS WELL.  THIS SERIES IS A MUST READ. 5 STARS.

He stood at the foot of the stairs for a good minute before summoning the courage to climb them. Pausing on the landing, he looked up. The light in the attic had gone off.

But the lightbulb was broken, he remembered. Someone left it on, and now it’s flickering, he told himself.

He knew he could not go to sleep until he saw for himself that he was right, so with a deep breath, he pushed himself to keep climbing. By the time he reached the top, the light was on again.

A cold sweat broke out along his hairline.

He walked inside. The room was large and monstrously cluttered, full of old furniture belonging to Aunt Willie, and scores of boxes the Thompsons had not had time to unpack yet. He glanced around the place, but nothing seemed out of the ordinary.

He stood still for a bit, listening intently. Finally, he heard something; soft, yet insistent tapping.

Bats, he remembered. But bats don’t tap. Do they?

“Is someone here?” he asked. He meant to sound calm, but his voice trembled.

At that very moment, to his horror, he heard it; a low, drawn-out whisper.

“Welcome.” A faint echo lingered in the air.

“Mom! Dad!” Timmy tried calling; all he could produce was a hoarse murmur.

“Come to me,” the breathy voice sighed, closer to his ear. He spun around, expecting to see someone, but only his own reflection stared back at him from the window.
