Cordelia Davis lives with no regrets, despite her life changing drastically a half century ago when a tornado altered the destiny of the little Ozark town of Willow Lane. The town grew back stronger and more beautiful, and Cordelia, her sister, Pamela, and her best friend, Wanda, built a life to treasure.

As Willow Lane honors the memory of those lost and celebrates all that has been achieved, tragedy refuses to remain in the past. News of murder rocks the pastoral countryside when Cordelia discovers a body on her farm, beneath her beloved willow tree. And while the police make an immediate arrest, Cordelia finds herself untangling a web of lies and long-ago secrets.

With suspects in every nook of her cozy town—and an old flame knocking on her door—it will take all Cordelia’s tenacity to face the past and to weather the mysteries of Willow Lane.

GUEST POST

Delivering casseroles and solving murders, it’s a good gig if you can get it.

Thankfully, in Twister Sisters, Cordelia, Pamela, and Wanda not only have that gig, they excel at it. To top it off, they each drive their refurbished hippie wagon (aka, old time Volkswagen van), to deliver casseroles to those in need and find justice for those who’ve been killed throughout their charming little Ozark town of Willow Lane.

One of my favorite things about cozy mysteries, one of the reasons I find them so charming, is the inclusion of food and recipes. Who knew yumming goodness could make murder wholesome? If I sit back and think about it, it’s probably a little odd that we love to read about everyday people solving crime all the while baking, cooking, or simply eating. However, what could be more comforting than that? Making the world a little safer, all the while reveling in delectable food!

In my other series, the Cozy Corgi, every mystery comes with a baked goods recipe. Ninety percent of the time they’re sweet, but every once in a while savory as well. But always something you’d find in a bakery. When Cordelia, Pamela, and Wanda came tapping on my brain and informed me they lived a little Ozark farming town in the Bible Belt, there was really only one option. It screamed nearly as loud as the women’s stories did themselves--casseroles!

I spent the first eighteen years of my life in a little Ozark farming town in the Bible Belt-- although, in full disclosure, mine wasn’t nearly as charming, cute, and picturesque as Willow Lane. On the flipside, it wasn’t quite as murderous either so… bonus! Part of my upbringing, cliché or not, was casseroles. Whether it was family dinner, summer picnics, or potlucks after church in the annex, casseroles were plentiful. People not from the Midwest tend to be rather surprised to find out that quite literally anything can be turned into a casserole--from biscuits and gravy, to pizza, to Doritos chicken (yes, you read that right--horrible for you, but tasty!). Granted more frequent are the variations on the standard: meat, vegetables, cream of whatever soup you have in your pantry, topped with crumbled potato chips and cheddar cheese.

The recipe in the first installment of the Twister Sister series, Hippie Wagon Homicide, is somewhere in the middle of uniqueness and standard, but is as Midwest and yummy as you can imagine. While solving their first murder, our Twister Sisters use their hippie wagons to deliver chicken noodle casserole to all their patrons. Don’t worry, you don’t have to figure out who the murderer is to earn your portion, as they’ve provided the recipe at the end of their book!

Whether you’re from the casserole-filled the Midwest or think that mayonnaise can only be used in the secret sauce of fast food restaurants, you’ll find something to sink your teeth into, and love, in Hippie Wagon Homicide. And, when you’re done, if you end up making the recipe for chicken noodle casserole, please drop me a line and let me know how much you loved it!

Stay safe out there, watch out for murderers, help out your amateur sleuth if they come snooping around your neighborhood, and make sure you all your vegetables (hopefully covered in cheese).
