Review of Bleed (The Skull Serial Killer Thriller Series Book 1) by Emerald O'Brien

For fans of Halloween and ScreamBleed is the first gripping novel in The Skull Serial Killer Thriller Series. If you enjoy the slasher genre and psychological thrillers, you’ll love this chilling and unpredictable story from bestselling author Emerald O’Brien.

A Halloween to remember… if she makes it out alive.

In the quiet town of Auburn Hills, a man in a skull mask forces a father to watch as his daughter is murdered, only to be granted the twisted reprieve of his own death when a witness calls for help. The sadistic killer escapes, and the grief-stricken father gives his statement before admitting himself to a mental health hospital.

One month later, Fox Dallener is eager to celebrate her Halloween traditions with her cousin. But after a disturbing experience at work, she can’t shake the eerie feeling of being watched.

On edge, she hopes for safety in numbers as she and her cousin attend a Halloween party with their group of misfit friends. However, all bets are off when the inconsolable father is spotted leaving the hospital and the witness is reported missing.

As the night progresses, unsettling events push Fox’s paranoia to the limits. Though her panic could be the result of simple, harmless pranks, she can’t help but feel like a target.

Desperate for answers and safety, Fox fears the worst. Has her past finally caught up to her?

The killer isn’t the only one with a mask.
Fox wears one of her own.

Written by a student of the slasher genre, lover of horror, and bestselling author of over twenty psychological thriller novels, Emerald O’Brien’s twisted new series in the vein of Riley Sager and Taylor Adams is sure to bring readers heart-pounding suspense.

“An eerily suspenseful, sinister, completely cinematic story with characters you’ll love…
Bleed is Emerald O'Brien at her best. I was riveted to the page from the chilling opening scene until the final heartstopping moment. It's a true work of art… my favorite book by O'Brien and my favorite read of 2023!” -Kiersten Modglin, bestselling author of The Arrangement.

MY REVIEW:

BLEED IS BOOK 1 IN THE SKULL SERIAL KILLER THRILLER SERIES AND WOW WHAT AN EXCELLENT START TO THE SERIES.  FOX, HER COUSIN AND FRIENDS CELEBRATE HALLOWEEN TOGETHER EVERY YEAR BY WATCHING HORROR MOVIES BUT THIS YEAR IS GOING TO BE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT.  A MURDER WAS COMMITTED IN AUBURN HILLS AND A MASKED SKULL PERSON MADE A FATHER WATCH AS HE KILLED HIS DAUGHTER. THE MASKED SKULL PERSON GOT AWAY BEFORE THE POLICE COULD TAKE HIM INTO CUSTODY. SO NOW EVERYONE IN TOWN IS SCARED AND ON ALERT.  A SERIES OF UNSETTLING EVENTS HAVE TERIFIED FOX AND SHE THINKS SOMEONE IS FOLLOWING HER. DOES THIS HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH FOX'S PAST?

BLEED IS A GRIPPING NOVEL OF SUSPENSE AND HORROR AND DRAWS THE READER IN FROM THE VERY FIRST PAGE UNTIL THE END.  I COULD NOT PUT THE BOOK DOWN. EMERALD O'BRIEN HAS CREATED ANOTHER BRILLIANT SERIES THAT WILL HOOK THE READERS FROM THE VERY FIRST PAGE.  THE CHARACTERS ARE WELL WRITTEN AND VERY BELIEVABLE AND I LOVE THE SMALL TOWN SETTING.  THE CONNECTION BETWEEN FOX AND HER COUSIN, JACK WAS VERY REALISTIC AND CLOSE.  THEY ARE AS CLOSE AS SISTERS AND ALWAYS LOOKED OUT FOR ONE ANOTHER.  I LOVE FOX WHO EMBRACED LIFE AND CLUNG TO THE PEOPLE WHO MADE HER FEEL ALIVE.  SHE WAS NEVER A VICTIM OR PRETENDED TO BE ONE BUT SHE DID HAVE A PAST AND WAS AFRAID THAT HER FRIENDS WOULD FIND OUT ABOUT IT.  I LOVE EMERALD'S WRITING AND HER STORIES.  I THOUGHT BLEED WAS BRILLANT AND SCARY AND KEPT THE READER ON THE EDGE OF THEIR SEAT.  THERE ARE ALOT OF SURPRISING TWISTS AND TURNS WHICH EMERALD IS BRILLANT AT PUTTING IN HER STORIES THAT LEAVE THE READER GUESSING UNTIL THE VERY END.

IF YOU ARE A FAN OF HORROR STORIES, SCREAM AND HALLOWEEN, BLEED IS A MUST READ. THIS IS THE PERFECT HALLOWEEN STORY THAT WILL LEAVE THE READER WANTING MORE.  I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEXT BOOK IN THE SERIES TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS NEXT.  IF YOU HAVE NEVER READ ANY OF EMERALD O'BRIEN'S BOOKS, YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE MISSING.  I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HER BOOKS.  SHE IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE AUTHORS.  5 STARS.
