Review of Shady Lake by Emerald O'Brien

No matter how hard she tries, Becca can't move on from the terrible events that occurred during her last summer on Shady Lake. The summer that years of abuse at the hands of her parents came to a head and her best friend went missing.
When their grandpa decides to sell the family cottage, Becca, her sister, and a small group of friends go back to fix it up. Becca soon realizes her haunting memories are nothing compared to the terrifying secrets she uncovers or the one night she can't remember that could unlock the answers she needs to finally move on.
If she can survive the weekend.

MY REVIEW:

EMERALD O'BRIEN IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE AUTHORS.  I WAS REALLY EXCITED WHEN I HEARD SHE HAD A NEW BOOK OUT.  I COULDN'T WAIT TO READ IT.  I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED.  SHADY LAKE WAS EVERYTHING I EXPECTED IT TO BE AND MORE.  WE ARE INTRODUCED TO BECCA AND HER SISTER WHO HAD SUCH A TRAUMATIC AND ABUSIVE CHILDHOOD.  BOTH SISTERS WERE ABUSED BY THEIR PARENTS AND HER BEST FRIEND GOES MISSING.  BECCA AND HER SISTER ARE FINALLY TAKEN AWAY BY THEIR GRANDPA BUT NEITHER TRULY HAS FORGOTTEN THE PAST.

BECCA'S GRANDPA DECIDES TO SELL THE FAMILY COTTAGE.  BECCA, HER SISTER AND SMALL GROUP OF FRIENDS GO BACK TO CLEAN AND FIX THE PLACE UP.  BECCA'S PAINFUL AND HAUNTING MEMORIES SURFACE WHILE AND HE COTTAGE AND ONE MEMORY SHE CAN'T SEEM TO REMEMBER.  WILL BECCA RECALL THE MEMORY IN TIME?

I REALLY ENJOYED SHADY LAKE. IT LEFT ME WANTING MORE.  THERE IS SO MUCH SUSPENSE, INTRIGUE, MYSTERY, SOME ROMANCE AND EVEN ACTION.  EMERALD KEEPS YOU ON THE EDGE OF YOUR SEAT THROUGHOUT THE BOOK UNTIL THE VERY END.  YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHO THE REAL KILLER IS AND THERE ARE SOME MAJOR SECRETS THAT COME OUT.  WHEN YOU THINK YOU KNOW THE ANSWER, EMERALD THROW ANOTHER CLUE AT YOU.  THE CHARACTERS ARE SO COMPLEX AND DAMAGED.  YOU CAN FEEL THEIR PAIN.  I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU READ SHADY LAKE.  YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.  5 STARS
