BOOK SYNOPSIS
After three agonizing years of surgeries and rehab. U.S. Army veteran Jason Donahue is ready to leave the Iraq War in the past and rejoin society. Yet, no matter the success he achieves at work, people wince every time they see him.
Everyone but Emily Riley. From the first, the beautiful redhead looks past his disfigurement and sees him. In return, Jason wants to buy her everything she deserves, starting with her dream home and going from there. Yet Emily has scars of her own, a past she’s not ready to reveal. Only when they both come clean, when they view each other through eyes of trust and love, will they know that, when a good man and a good woman give each other their heart, the two will always have more than enough.

EXCERPT
“Well, that explains it, then,” Mr. Harrington said.
“Explains what, Mr. Harrington?” Jason was puzzled and didn’t even try to hide it.
“Why you’re so interested in Emily. She and that money of hers could go a long way toward helping you catch up financially, as you put it.”
Jason felt the blood drain from his head. Emily exchanged a frantic look with her sister. “I-I’m sorry, sir,” he stammered. “What did you say?”
“I said that Emily and that money of hers could go a long way.”
Jason just stared at the old man for a minute. “What money, Mr. Harrington?”
“Oh, don’t be ridiculous, young man. The trust fund. The Harrington trust fund. She’s bound to have told you about it.”
He lifted his chin and looked the old man in the eye. “I didn’t know Emily had a trust fund. She’s never mentioned it to me.” He looked at Emily across the table. “You’ve never said a word, Emily. Have you?”
MY REVIEW:
UNEXPECTED ASSETS IS PART OF THE TEXAS HILL COUNTRY SERIES. I READ THE PREVIOUS BOOK IN THE SERIES AND REALLY ENJOYED IT. I AM GLAD I DECIDED TO READ UNEXPECTED ASSETS. IT WAS A VERY FAST READ FOR ME WITH CHARACTERS FROM THE PREVIOUS BOOK. THIS IS EMILY AND JASON'S STORY. JASON IS A WOUNDED WAR VETERAN WHO WAS DISFIGURED AND INJURED IN THE IRAQ WAR. JASON IS VERY INSECURE ABOUT HIMSELF. EMILY IS A BRIGHT, STRONG AND SWEET YOUNG WOMAN WHO SEES BEYOND JASON'S SCARS AND INJURIES. SHE SEES THE REAL JASON. JASON LOVES EMILY AND WILL DO WHATEVER HE CAN TO MAKE HER HAPPY. EMILY LOVES JASON BUT JASON CAN'T SEEM TO ACCEPT THAT EMILY LOVES HIM FOR WHO HE IS AND NOT WHAT HE LOOKS LIKE. BOTH HAVE SECRETS AND A PAST. WILL JASON AND EMILY'S PAST DESTROY THEIR LOVE?
UNEXPECTED ASSETS IS A CONTEMPORARY ROMANCE. THE AUTHOR DRAWS ME INTO THE STORY FROM THE VERY FIRST PAGE UNTIL THE END. EMILY MIMS DOES A WONDERFUL JOB WITH THE STORY. SHE DOES A WONDERFUL JOB IN PORTRAYING THE EMOTIONS AND ACTIONS OF A WOUNDED WARRIOR. THE WOUNDED WARRIOR EXPERIENCES MANY OBSTACLES AFTER SURVIVING THE WAR. THERE IS SO MUCH THE PUBLIC DOES NOT KNOW ABOUT THE WOUNDED WARRIOR AND I AM GLAD THERE IS A WOUNDED WARRIOR PROJECT OUT THERE TO HELP THEM.
I REALLY ENJOYED UNEXPECTED ASSETS. I LOVE A VERY GOOD ROMANCE AND I THOUGHT THIS STORY WAS REALLY ROMANTIC. I THOUGHT EMILY AND JASON WERE VERY STRONG CHARACTERS BOTH INSECURE ABOUT THEMSELVES. THEY WERE PERFECT FOR ONE ANOTHER. I AM REALLY ENJOYING THE TEXAS HILL COUNTRY SERIES AND I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO THE NEXT BOOK IN THE SERIES. I LOVE EMILY MIMS WRITING AND CAN'T WAIT TO READ MORE OF HER BOOKS. SHE HAS BECOME ONE OF MY FAVORITE WRITERS. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU READ THE TEXAS HILL COUNTRY SERIES AND ANY BOOK BY EMILY MIMS. YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT. 5 STARS
