Review of Knock Three Times by Emerald O'Brien

From the bestselling author of We Don’t Leave, comes a fast-paced, chilling psychological thriller in the vein of Jennifer Hillier, Riley Sager, and Kiersten Modglin. Remey Owens is desperate to move on with her life after the brutal murder of her next-door neighbour, Marlena. When the opportunity to housesit for her best friend’s parents arises, it feels almost too good to be true. While staying in the beautiful Craftsman-style home, she hopes she won’t hear the banging through the walls or Marlena crying, even if it is now only in her mind. But things don’t go as planned. While she finds some solace knowing that Marlena’s killer is dead, the calls from Remey’s obsessive ex and the strange noises in the house make it hard to relax. And there’s a prickling down her spine when she returns late one evening after a date—something’s amiss. Soon, it becomes apparent that she’s not as alone as she believed. The quiet isolation of the home that had once seemed peaceful, now feels far more threatening. Here, there are no neighbours close enough to save her. To survive the night, Remey must let go of everything she thought she knew about Marlena’s death. Because the terrifying truth is more disturbing than she could have imagined, and it’s coming for her too.

MY REVIEW:

KNOCK THREE TIMES IS ANOTHER BRILL ANT THRILLER BY BEST SELLING AUTHOR, EMERALD O'BRIEN.  REMEY'S NEXT DOOR NEIGHBOR, MARLENA WAS TO KNOCK AND REMEY WAS TO FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS.  SHE WAS TOO LATE AND MARLENA IS MURDERED.  REMEY BREAKS UP WITH HER BOYFRIEND, LOGAN OVER SHARED TRAUMA BUT IS UNABLE TO SLEEP AND HEARS KNOCKING IN HER SLEEP. IN ORDER TO MOVE FORWARD, SHE SET UP WITH MIKE WHO SHE MET IN HER APARTMENT COMPLEX BUT HER EX-BOYFRIEND, LOGAN APPEARS TO BE STALKING HER OR IS HE?

I REALLY ENJOYED READING KNOCK THREE TIMES.  THE AUTHOR HAS CREATED ANOTHER SUSPENSEFUL STORYLINE THAT WILL LEAVE YOU WANTING MORE. KNOCK THREE TIMES IS A PSYCHOLOGICAL THRILLER THAT YOU WILL NOT WANT TO PUT DOWN.  IT WILL KEEP YOU ON THE EDGE OF YOUR SEAT WITH LOTS OF PLOT TWISTS AND TURNS THAT WILL LEAVE YOU GUESSING UNTIL THE END. THE CHARACTERS ARE WELL DEVELOPED AND WILL DRAW YOU INTO THE STORY.  YOU WILL FEEL REMEY'S GUILT, HEARTACHE, PAIN AND HER TERROR WHEN SOMEONE IS PLAYING HORRIBLE TRICKS ON HER. THE AUTHOR DESCRIBES HER CHARACTERS REALLY WELL AND YOU CAN FEEL HOW THEY FEEL.   EMERALD O'BRIEN IS A BRILLANT WRITER THAT NEVER DISAPPOINTS WITH HER BOOKS.  SHE IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE AUTHORS AND A MUST READ FOR EVERYONE. 5 STARS.

Review of An Inheritance to Die for by Judy Moore

That question takes Beck O’Rourke to Miami in this fourth standalone book in the Cozy Mysteries To Die For series. With three successful murder investigations under her belt, Beck enters the privileged world of her spoiled freshman roommate and her fractured family to take on her first paid job as a private investigator. Heirs stand to inherit millions from the death of Benjamin Greene. Was it more than a coincidence that he died the night before he was meeting with his lawyer to change his will? An Inheritance To Die For brings readers back to the Beach Reads bookstore and cafĂ©, a block off the ocean in quaint Manatee Beach, Florida. Returning are Beck’s spirited grandmother Miss Alice, her fiesty lifeguard sister Lizzie, town character Scratchoff McLean, and, of course, her love interest, handsome Manatee Beach Police detective Devon Mathis. Will their romance ever get off the ground?

MY REVIEW:

REVIEW OF INHERITANCE TO DIE FOR IS BOOK 4 IN THE COZY MYSTERIES TO DIE FOR SERIES AND CAN BE READ AS A STANDALONE. WE ARE REINTRODUCED TO BECK WHO STILL RUNS THE CAFE WITH THE HELP OF HER GRANDMOTHER AND LIFEGUARD SISTER, LIZZIE. SHE NOW HAS HER PI LICENSE AND HAS HER FIRST PAID CASE. HER OLD ROOMMATE HIRES HER TO INVESTIGATE HER FATHER'S DEATH WHICH WAS RULED A SUICIDE. BECK TRAVELS TO MIAMI WHERE SHE MEETS WITH HER OLD ROOMMATE AND HER FAMILY. EVERYONE HAD A REASON TO KILLBENJAMIN GREENE. HE IS WORTH MILLIONS AND HIS CHILDREN WERE ESTRANGED FROM HIM.

INHERITANCE TO DIE FOR IS WELL WRITTEN WITH A LOT OF SUSPENSE AND VERY LIKEABLE CHARACTERS.  THE STORY AND CHARACTERS ARE VERY BELIEABLE AND REAL AND THE AUTHOR'S DESCRIPTIONS ARE WELL WRITTEN. THERE ARE A LOT OF TWIST AND TURNS WITH THE PLOT THAT WILL LEAVE THE READER GUESSING UNTIL THE END. THE MAIN CHARACTERS CONTINUE TO DEVELOPE IN EACH BOOK AND IT WAS NICE TO WATCH DEVON AND BECK'S ROMANCE DEVELOP.  IF YOU ARE A FAN OF COZY MYSTERIES, THEN I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU READ THIS SERIES.  IT IS VERY ENJOYABLE AND ENGAGING AND THERE IS HUMOR AND ROMANCE. I REALLY ENJOY READING JUDY MOORE'S BOOK.  SHE IS AN EXCELLENT WRITER.  5 STARS

Deaf Row Book Tour and Giveaway

Deaf Row

by Ron Franscell

Genre: Mystery, Thriller, Crime Fiction

Retired from a big-city homicide beat to a small Colorado mountain town, ex-detective Woodrow "Mountain" Bell yearns only to fade away. He's failed in so many ways as a father, a husband, friend, and cop that it might be too late for a meaningful life. When he stumbles across a long-forgotten, unsolved child murder, his first impulse is to let it lie ... but he can't. He's drawn into the macabre mystery when he realizes the killer might still be near. Without help from ambivalent local cops, Bell must overcome the obstacles of time, age, and a lack of police resources by calling upon the unique skills of the end-of-the-road codgers he meets for coffee every morning—a club of old guys who call themselves Deaf Row. Soon, this mottled crew finds itself on a collision course with a serial butcher.

|
DEAF ROW is more than a tense mystery novel, more than an unnerving psychological thriller drawn from Ron Franscell's career as a bestselling true-crime writer and journalist. It is also a novel of men pushing back against time and death, trying not to disappear entirely. DEAF ROW is a moving, occasionally humorous, portrait of flawed people caught in a web of pain and regret. And although you might think you know where this ghastly case is headed, the climax will blindside you.

A veteran journalist, Ron Franscell is the New York Times bestselling author of 18 books, including international bestsellers “The Darkest Night” and Edgar-nominated true crime Morgue: A Life in Death.” His newest, “ShadowMan: An Elusive Psycho Killer and the Birth of FBI Profiling,” was released in March by Berkley/Penguin-Random House.

His atmospheric and muscular writing—hailed by Ann Rule, Vincent Bugliosi, William Least-Heat Moon, and others—has established him as one of the most provocative American voices in narrative nonfiction.

Ron’s first book, “Angel Fire,” was a USA Today bestselling literary novel listed by the San Francisco Chronicle among the 100 Best Novels of the 20th Century West. His later success grew from blending techniques of fiction-writing with his daily journalism. The result was dramatic, detailed, and utterly true storytelling.

Ron has established himself as a plucky reporter, too. As a senior writer at the Denver Post, he covered the evolution of the American West but shortly after 9/11, he was dispatched by the Post to cover the Middle East during the first months of the War on Terror. In 2004, he covered devastating Hurricane Rita from inside the storm.

His book reviews and essays have been widely published in many of America’s biggest and best newspapers, such as the Washington Post, Chicago Sun-Times, San Francisco Chronicle, San Jose Mercury-News, St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel and others. He has been a guest on CNN, Fox News, NPR, the Today Show, ABC News, and he appears regularly on crime documentaries at Investigation Discovery, Oxygen, History Channel, Reelz, and A&E.

He lives in northern New Mexico.
