Review of Mirror of Love by Samna Ghani

Emma Miller is an intelligent woman who believes in thinking with her head instead of her heart. A total cynic, she does not believe in fairy-tale endings nor is she one to swoon or pine for some man. She believes in attaining a comfortable existence. No complications. No worries. Her decision to visit Salar de Uyuni pretty much changes her entire perspective – about love, life and the truly important things in life.
Ashton Colyns is just like Emma. Cynical. Sarcastic. Witty. No idealistic notions for him either. But with his dry sense of humor and his irresistible charm, he manages to penetrate through Emma’s no-nonsense persona.
Amidst the excitement and adventure and through the complicated mess with Henry Tudor and Anne Boleyn, will Ashton and Emma finally realize they were meant to be together?

MY REVIEW:

MIRROR OF LOVE IS BOOK 1 IN THE MIRRORS OF TIME SERIES.  IMAGINE GOING BACK INTO TIME AND MEETING YOUR SOUL MATE  THAT IS WHAT EMMA DOES.   SHE MEETS ASHTON COLYNS WHO IS JUST LIKE HER.  HE IS CYNICAL AND SARCASTIC BUT HE ALSO MAKES EMMA'S BODY FEEL THINGS SHE NEVER THOUGHT SHE WOULD.   ASHTON MAKES HER HEART BEAT WILDLY AND HER BODY TREMBLE.  AS EMMA AND ASHTON GET TO KNOW ONE ANOTHER, EVERYTHING SHE THOUGHT SHE BELIEVED IN IS WRONG.  THERE IS SUCH THING AS TRUE LOVE AND FAIRY TALE ENDINGS.  WHEN EMMA REALIZES SHE IS IS IN LOVE WITH ASHTON, SHE HAS TO TELL HIM THE TRUTH.  WILL HE BELIEVE HER STORY OR THINK SHE IS CRAZY?

MIRROR OF LOVE WAS A FAST PACE READ FOR ME.  I WAS IMMEDIATELY PULLED INTO THE STORY BY THE AUTHOR AND IT KEPT ME WANTING MORE.  IT IS A MAGICAL FAIRY TALE OF FINDING LOVE WHERE YOU AT LEAST EXPECT IT. SAMNA HAS CREATED  A TIME TRAVEL ROMANCE MAKING YOU BELIEVE IN FAIRYTALES AGAIN.  SHE HAS CREATED SOME VERY ENJOYABLE CHARACTERS WHO MAKE YOU LAUGH AND YOU WILL FALL IN LOVE WITH ASHTON.  I ENJOYED HEARING ABOUT SOME OF THE HISTORY THROUGHOUT THE BOOK. IT JUST ADDED TO THE STORY. I THOUGH EMMA AND ASHTON WERE PERFECT FOR ONE ANOTHER.  THEY DEFINITELY HAD THE ATTRACTION.  I ENJOYED THE CONSTANT BANTER BETWEEN THEM.   IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A ROMANTIC TIME TRAVEL FAIRYTALE, THEN THIS IS THE BOOK FOR YOU.  I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO READING MORE BOOKS IN THE SERIES AND MORE BOOKS BY SAMNA GHANI.  5 STARS

Trapped in another era, Jane is forced to choose between her very life and the young man of the portrait, for she has fallen in love with the real version of Jestyn Greywick.
Years ago, at the age of fourteen, Jane Fielder visited England, the birth country of her parents, with her mother. A that time a strange event took place, and one that Jane never forgot. On a tour of a great estate with her mother, Jane became entranced by the portrait of a young man. She noticed that he had a pendant with the gold chain wrapped around his hand. Impulsively, Jane touched the young man’s hand and it felt warm. Now, years later, and devastated by the death of her parents, Jane returns to England as a foreign correspondent. She hopes the change of scene will make the loss of her parents easier to bear, for her health has lately taken a hit. Jane is as anxious to start her new job as she is to see the portrait again, for she wants to find out if she just imagined that the young man’s hand felt warm to her touch. Then when Jane touches the young man’s hand on the portrait again, she is blasted back in time
to 1803.

She stared at him. Now that he had leaned toward her she could see his face clearly. This was the second time she had seen this man. The first time had been when she had stared at his portrait. Electricity zig-zaged through her body, clear down to her toes. What did this mean?
Jane took out a tissue from her front jacket pocket and pressed it against her cut, mopping up the blood that had trickled to her chin and neck all the time the man was speaking to her in an irate tone:
“My brother is hurt and it appears you were also injured and it serves you right!”
Jane shifted her leg to ease the shooting sparks of pain going up her side and on her right arm.
“What's your name?” Jestyn asked when Jane just stared at him.
“What's yours?”
“Of all the insolent...I have a good mind to give you a thrashing.”
“So you beat women?”
“You're a woman? A woman wearing breeches?” His voice was incredulous as he continued asking, “And what kind of strange breeches are these? And where did you get this lantern? Is it magic?” The man looked keenly at the strong light coming from the flashlight. “Did you use magic?”
“Magic?” said Jane looking down at her flashlight. A flashlight was magic to this guy? “Listen,” she added when he just stared at her, “this pain is more than I can bear. I – could you help me up? My leg – something’s wrong with my left leg. I can’t get up.”
“It’s either sprained or broken,” the man replied. “You cannot walk on that – uh – limb for now.” His tone had changed on hearing she was a woman rather than a rascally youth spooking his horses on purpose.
“My name is Jane Fielder,” Jane said, in a more appeasing tone, I’m a reporter for CBS and I – I seem to have lost my way.” If this man was the only one that could help her, in spite of his strange attire, she should try to ask nicely.
“I’m Jestyn Greywick, miss,” he replied.
For a stunned moment Jane said nothing. Then she dragged out a few words. “You’re kidding, aren’t you?”
“I beg your pardon?”
“This whole thing...” Jane said, “...your costume, dressed as Jestyn Greywick...the carriage...were you – are these scenes arranged for tourists?”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about, Miss Fielder,” he said.
“What I mean is you can’t really be serious about your name unless you’re – oh, I get it. You’re pretending to be Jestyn Greywick. That was the name of the man in the portrait I saw moments ago.” Jane felt dizzy and probably wasn’t making sense, judging by the look in the man’s eyes.

Broken Minds by Sarah Alexander Cover Reveal

Cover model: Felicia Musser
Photographer and cover designer:  Author Sarah Alexander

Keda Spencer’s life changed twelve years ago. She met a boy and he stole her heart. The problem was, they were both broken. After learning about his life, she made a decision that would change both of them. Now, they are bound together. Even with miles separating them, she can still feel his heart beating in rhythm with hers.

She recently received news that could lead her back to him. Anticipation blossoms as it is only with him that she can be her true self. But her very next thought is filled with memories and dread takes over. She isn’t sure she can survive him again.

**Warning: This novel may cause triggers and is meant for readers 18 years of age and older.**

“I don’t know the first thing about your family or where you grew up. Hell, I don’t even know your middle name. I think I only know your last name by accident. My point is - I want to be someone you can trust. I am someone you can trust. I don’t want you to run away from me again. Can you give me even a glimpse of what happened to you yesterday? You seemed excited about going to the country club when we talked about it yesterday morning and then, for whatever reason, you freak on Dr. Johnson. Please, Keda. Please let me in.”

“If you want insight into what triggers memories, I can’t give that to you. I never know until it happens,” I reply, checking my watch. I have a little extra time before having to be at work. Feeling guilty about dragging him through my madness, I decide that maybe I can allow him a little glimpse. Maybe it will help him move forward. Maybe it will help me move forward. “Here, I want to show you something,” I say, turning to go back in the house.

As soon as the door is opened my heart begins pounding at the thought of him reading the letter. My palms begin sweating and I can’t seem to unlock the door. Stopping for a moment to gather myself, I’m finally able to unlock then push it open.

“Maybe this wasn’t such a good idea,” I say, coming to a complete stop in front of him. I can feel his breath on my neck and before I know what’s happening, he wraps his arms around my waist. I want to pull away. I want to tell him to stop but I can’t. I wonder if he can hear my nerve endings singe as the electricity flows through me. His warmth is uncharacteristically soothing. My heart is relaxing but my mind speeds up.

“Is this all right?” he asks, in a hushed voice.

“No,” I reply, wishing he would move but glad when he doesn’t. He won’t remove his hands and I am reminded why I have stayed with him for as long as I have. As much as I want to fight him and his touch, he makes my body sing. I want to move out of his grasp but evidently my body needs him. His lips meet my neck and he pulls my body back so it is flush with his. “I need you to remember why we are together. I need you to remember, Keda. Will you do that for us? Will you remember? We are great together and you know it. I will not allow you to walk out of my life,” he says, between kisses.

I need to stop him before we go too far. It’s not fair to either of us if I let this continue. But I need his comfort. After last night, I need anything to take my mind somewhere else, somewhere that isn’t tainted with bad memories.

            “Adam…” I say, breathlessly.
“Yeah, baby?” he replies, as his hands move from my sides to my stomach.
“Please help me forget,” I beg.

“No, baby, I’m going to help you remember,” he says, as he moves from behind me. My eyes move to his once he is facing me. I can’t stand for him to see me, for him to see my vulnerabilities and my transparencies. Comfort envelopes us as he kisses away my tears. His lips take away my deepest fears and my sadness then swallows them whole.

Guilt is dangerous.
It rules my life.
I am riddled with it.
After fifteen years, you would think it would lessen.
It hasn’t.
Drugs numb it, women relieve it.
But it always returns, stronger and heavier.
Always.
The light, it is refreshing.
It gets closer and I reach for it.
But it is always just out of my grasp.
Always.

EXCLUSIVE EXCERPT :

It’s just like riding a bicycle, your hands and body never forget what they are supposed to do, right? I slip it snug up against my throat, jaw on the chin rest. With fingers in place, I bring the bow down. As I slide it across the strings, I see the images of Ian and everything that happened. Hesitating to do something that once was second nature to me makes me feel weak. I shake my head no. “Maybe this wasn’t the best idea. I’m just not ready to fall flat on my face for a second time.” I hate that all Asher has seen so far of me is all of my weaknesses and fear.

“And if you fall, I’ll be here to catch you.” He walks over toward me, hands stretched out. He pulls me up into a hug and begins kissing me. His kisses melt away every other thought, leaving me to only think of him. Our feet start to move like a dance. We turn, and he’s pushing me backward with each step he takes. I don’t know where we’re heading but we can’t get there soon enough. He swallows my soft moans as he tugs gently on my hair.

My hands run over the crest of his strong shoulders, down those rippling muscular arms. God, how I’ve missed touching him. His hands snake down between us, and in a flash he lifts the dress up over my head, leaving me naked by the bay window.

“There, that’s better.” He leads me over, instructing me to sit on the stool in front of where he’s standing, then sits behind me on the window seat. “Get ready to play. This time I don’t want you to think about how the notes are supposed to sound or what you know you should do. Just play what you feel. Show me how I make you feel,” he whispers seductively in my ear.

Nerves on edge, I reposition myself to play. I’ve sat this way thousands of times, but this is so different. I am naked, totally exposing everything to him inside and out. The tips of his fingers softly caress the curve of my breasts, and goosebumps pucker the dark skin around my nipples. I make the first calm pass of the bow over the strings, and a sad, slow melody comes out. His fingers pluck at my nipples as he sucks and bites at the base of my neck. I imitate his movements and pluck several notes off the strings. There is an urgency inside me, and the bow slides up and down the strings as my fingers dance along the neck. The relentless pull of him on my body and the ache I feel for him hurries the melody along. “I love you, Leah.” He whispers over and over in my ear. My body shudders as he reaches up to stroke my nipples with his thumbs.

After the first orgasm ripples through me, something changes. The melody I played that was mere dead notes, comes to life. With each touch, my fear and tough façade melt away. The familiar calm comes, smoothing the tense expression from my face. Finally, I close my eyes and give in to it.

Each time the bow moves, I am pulling this heavenly sound from Asher’s heart and sliding it across the strings. He continues to kiss, suck, and nip tender parts of my ear and neck. His touch warms me, making my body pliable; the music fuels me as it flows wildly through my veins.

I’m so caught up in the moment that I keep going. The notes come out of me from somewhere deep inside. I play for the little girl who lost so much of her life trying to make her parents happy; I play for the young woman who had the most private piece of her taken away; I play for Asher and everything he gave back to me; and when I played for just the joy of playing, I played for me.

excerpt

“Stop moving or I’ll accidently put it in the wrong place,” I ordered Nik. You would think a guy who had done military conscription at home in Berlin, and stood at attention for long periods of time in all sorts of weather, could stand still for a few minutes.
“Sah-sha, is it even possible to put it in the wrong place?” he asked, with a raised eyebrow. I couldn’t help but smile—the way he said my name with his German accent always caught my attention; it started like sarsaparilla and finished like a dance.
Niklas Wagner, star midfielder for the national soccer team the Santa Ana Saints, had come to me for a suit adjustment—yep by day I was the media officer for the Saints and by night I designed; it was my hobby-cum-passion. Nik was standing in front of me wearing only the black suit pants and the jacket, no shirt—I could see all those well-developed abdominal muscles just waiting to be touched and I wouldn’t mind tracing those grooves with my tongue either, up and down, tight and tense. Is it getting hot in here? Then I accidently did what I had been threatening, jabbed him with a pin.
“Ouch,” he yelped and stepped back.
“See? What did I tell you? Stand at attention,” I barked.
He stiffened and stood straight… for about five seconds...
